Je n'avais pas été totalement convaincu par "The Private Press" en 2002 (qui est tout de même un bon album). C'est pourquoi j'attendais cet "Outsider" avec une certaine impatience. Le morceau d'intro me parait à la hauteur. Vient ensuite "This Time (I'm Gonna Try It My Way)", espèce de disco-soul à la Barry White. Je trouve ça pas si mal jusqu'à ce que je me rende compte que c'est le dernier shadow que je suis en train d'écouter. Je passe à la track suivante. C'est quoi ce bordel? Un morceau digne d'une face B du plus exécrable sous R&B qui soit. Bref du début à la fin, ça part dans tous les sens, les rappeurs invités sont mauvais et la production d'un goût douteux. On en viendrait presque à oublier le génie "d'Entroducing". La question que je me pose: DJ Shadow producteur du prochain Aguilera??? In a word, it wasn't worth the ride!<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Coldcut. Celui-là, je ne l'attendais plus vraiment. Presque 10 ans après "Let Us Play!" que dire de ce "Sound Mirrors"? Je l'ai pas mal écouté (je me suis tout de même un peu forcé) et j'ai eu beaucoup de peine à trouver ce qui n'allait pas. Car quelque chose n'allait pas mais alors pas du tout. La production est assez bonne, variée, tout en gardant une certaine homogénéité. Il me semble que le problème vient des voix. Tout d'abord, un invité différent par morceau c'est trop à mon sens! Aussi, la qualité de ces featuring n'est rarement à la hauteur de la notoriété de l'artiste invité. A quand une version instrumentale?<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The Roots. 8 albums en 13 ans d'existence, ceux-là ne chôment pas! "Things Fall Apart", "Phrenology" et "Tipping Point" 3 chef d'oeuvre en 6 ans! "The Roots Come Alive" un album live incontournable! "Game Theory"? Nash Equilibrium??? Un des membres du "crew" aurait-il changé sa stratégie? Fallait-il renoncer aux "bombes" que sont les morceaux "Don't Feel Right" ou "Game Theory"? La "tête d'affiche" était Herbert que j'avais d'ailleurs déjà vu. La soirée commence avec Bugz in the Attic, un collectif londonien de "broken beat" avec un batteur qui joue en playback. On a parfois l'impression que tel ou tel album nous appartient depuis toujours et n'a donc pas pu "atterrir dans les bacs" (ou "mis à disposition" sur les p2p quelques mois avant sa sortie) durant l'année. Il arrive aussi de passer complètement à côté d'un chef d'oeuvre découvert dans la playlist de fin d'année de quelqu'un d'autre. A ce moment là, on l'écoute rapidement, en cachette, et on le met tout en haut de son propre classement. Ensuite, si possible, il faut trouver une personne qui est aussi passé à côté et là, s'écrier: "<span style="font-weight: bold;">QUOI, tu ne connais pas çA????!!!!</span>".<br />A l'heure du bilan, c'est toujours le même problème: comment sélectionner, classer, éliminer etc. J'ai donc décidé de garder le principe du top5 mais d'en faire plusieurs, distincts par "genre".
